Happy St. Patrick’s Day

May your troubles be less and your blessings be more,
and nothing but happiness come through your door

Happy St. Patricks Day

I’m half Irish (and proudly half Scot) from New Orleans…where everybody drinks like it’s always St. Patrick’s Day.  My dad’s the Scot…but man…he turned into a 6’4 Irishman every year and celebrated with the best (and worst) of them.  We don’t turn our river green (sometimes it’s like that on it’s own), but we celebrate like nobody else.  I’ve been to the parade held in New York City, home of the 1st St. Patty’s Parade actually…dropping the ball peeps, thats all I have to say.  They don’t throw any food…no moon pies flying through the air…what’s up with that??  We have one of the big parades the Sunday before and it lasts about 4 or 5 hours…give or take where you’re at on the parade route (in other words, how many bars did the peeps in the parade have to pass to get to you) and nobody’s yelling for the cups, beads or doubloons…they all want the food….the cabbage, onions, carrots, potatoes…pretty much anything and everything you need for a traditional Irish stew.  And Moon Pies…they throw Moon Pies….yummmmmmmm.  My mom and dad would show up at the regular family spot early in the morning, just like Mardi Gras Day, and camp out.  When those floats start passing, my dad…all decked out in his greenery and the ubiquitous “Kiss Me I’m Irish” shirt… would make his way to the front of the crowd with his free arm (the other was holding a Guinness) outstretched for the goodies.  He was not above holding up a baby for the cuteness factor and getting the really good goodies either.  We always came home with at least 10 cabbages and a sackful of veggies.  Then there’s the block parties at all the Irish pubs.  Crazy pants.  My dad would go to Parasol’s at 10am … it’d already be crowded..on St. Patty’s Day and start celebrating.  He grew up in the Irish Channel neighborhood right there and knew everybody, and could drink anyone under the table.  The block party gets so big all the surrounding streets outside of the block have to shut down and just party along.  So on the eve of the big green day, I raise my Guinness to my dad, who’s up in heaven eating a moon pie in his Kiss Me, I’m Irish shirt and waiting for the party to begin

So it’s time to get your green on peeps…everybody’s Irish on St. Patrick’s Day!  Start at Boudoir and pick up a sexy outfit….perhaps an appropriate throne to sit on when you’re shopping gets the best of you and you need to have a seat.  Then make it over to the Luck of the Irish Gacha and play, play, play
