Frank Sinatra – Fly me to the moon

I learned to fly once…ya’ll were lucky not to have been in the air at the same time.  I was taking a graduate class at OU in Norman and we had to log 6 hours in the air to get the credit.  Learning how to fly in a classroom is a piece of cake…almost the easiest A I ever made.  Then we had to get in the plane, a little 4 seater Piper Cherokee.  My car at the time was bigger.  Now understand, I love to fly…when I’m the passenger.  There were 3 students and our instructor …who looked to be all of 23…she’d been flying since she was 15ish.  Apparently that’s very common in Oklahoma.  We started tiny airport hopping…that’s not a technical term by the way…some of these airports were no bigger than a gas station with a landing strip…in the middle of some crop field (not into agriculture, so they all look alike).  It was all fun and games till it was my turn.  I apologized in advance for killing anyone in the plane and started rolling down the pseudo-landing strip. I made sure Tracy, my 12 year old instructor, had her hands on her instructor yoke and could take over at any moment…and being the prepubescent pro that she was…she started texting her bff with bunches of omg’s (just kidding….she was a total flight pro).  When I made it up in the air I was a tiny bit less freaked out…but couldn’t get out of the habit of looking out the window for other traffic.  My fellow classmates kept pointing to things below and telling me to look….I kept thinking if we get back alive, I was so putting a shit load of x-lax in their food that night (intended pun).  Landing was just as stressful and I was never so grateful that Tracy had been flying since coming out of her mommy’s womb.  No way would I ever get in a plane with noobs and let them have control.  Now when I get in a plane I go through the checklist in my head and think back on that class with fonder memories 🙂

I thought of this when I saw the aviator hat and goggles from RO…they’re so perfect I had to have them…they were at Sad November, but that event is closed now so you have to go to the store to get them.  You can choose to wear it with or without the hair…I chose hair for me and no hair for Annabelle ❤ (btw, the goggles are not mod, I took a picture of them and smooshed the pic down in a layer to get them to fit my mousie)

As luck would have it, Paperbag has an aviator jacket out at The Secret Affair as we speak…..so it was meant to be.  The jacket is fabulous, girly and cool and ready for adventure.  The Secret Affair is open till the 30th this month and has been wildly popular.  The theme is Harvest Moon and the designers have outdone themselves.  If you haven’t been, you owe it to yourself to pop over….there are so many wonderful creations, you almost won’t know which way to turn first. 🙂
