We haven’t had school the past few days due to “almost” hurricane Gorden and Bella (9) was doing some crafts and alternately singing You are my Sunshine and The Sound of Silence (weird child) allllll morning…. and off key. ❤

If you click on the link above you’ll get a really interesting version of the very old song “You are my Sunshine”.   Seems like everyone and their 3rd uncle has done a cover of the song (even Bing Crosby!).  The original song was written and composed by Jimmy Davis and Charles Mitchell and recorded by Davis in 1940.  At the time, Davis was a massively popular country singer as well as a semi-major movie star.  He moved into Louisiana politics around the same time and served 2 terms as governor in 1944 and 1960….with You are my Sunshine as his campaign song.  He lived to be 101, was inducted into countless Halls of Fame and effortlessly mixed music and politics throughout his life.  You are my Sunshine was named the Louisiana State Song in 1970 (which is how Bella knows it so well, they teach it in school) and you can hear versions from country to blues to Cajun anywhere in the state at any given time.  ❤
