One of my favorite books is The Princess Bride.  Written in the early 70’s, it was still popular when my dad gave it to me as a teenager.  We had a neighborhood book club that met (no kidding) in a treehouse in my besties backyard (there was 5 or 6 of us, but so what) and they were instantly hooked when I read the first line, “This is my favorite book in all the world, though I have never read it”.  (I ran downstairs and pulled it off the shelf to be sure of that).  The movie, which came out in the late 80’s, is surprisingly close to the book….instead of the father reading the story to the kid it’s the grandfather (and man…Columbo owned that role).  As the narrator (dad/grampa) says, the book has everything.

“He held up a book then. “I’m going to read it to you to relax.”
“Does it have any sports in it?”
“Fencing. Fighting. Torture. Poison. True Love. Hate. Revenge. Giants. Hunters. Bad men. Good men. Beautiful Ladies. Snakes. Spiders… Pain. Death. Brave men. Cowardly men. Strongest men. Chases. Escapes. Lies. Truths. Passion. Miracles.”
“Sounds okay,” I said and I kind of closed my eyes.”

I made sure I read the book to my kids before we watched the movie…. the dialog is so powerful when spoken…and I just may have to gather them and repeat it ❤

So clearly…I’m super excited that Enchantment chose The Princess Bride for this round….it IS the month of lurve after all ❤
